Farewell

We never want to let go of them, those we love. How could it be any different than that?  We loved them, hold them still ...

Let me see

Mark 10: 46-52
They came to Jericho. As he and his disciples and a large crowd were leaving Jericho, Bartimaeus, son of Timaeus, a blind beggar, was sitting by the roadside. When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Many sternly ordered him to be quiet, but he cried out even more loudly, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Jesus stood still and said, “Call him here.” And they called the blind man, saying to him, “Take heart; get up, he is calling you.” So throwing off his cloak, he sprang up and came to Jesus. Then Jesus said to him, “What do you want me to do for you?” The blind man said to him, “My teacher, let me see again.” Jesus said to him, “Go; your faith has made you well.” Immediately he regained his sight and followed him on the way.
Have mercy on me Lord, I want to place my hope in your goodness. I want to shout with full voice so that you can hear me call. Let me see. Let me touch you so that you can bring me to life again in you. Let me speak of you and what it means to believe in you. Can it be true that you are calling me, right now here in the midst of my non-seeing? I hear the voices of those who encourage, cajole and hearten me to rise. But I realise, it is you inviting me to step up, to take the risk and yes, it is my faith that heals me. Because, you see, I always believed you would come.

Do you think you are the only one

Do you think you are the only one
who's lost something
precious?
Who desires someone magnificent
enough to be worthy of them?
Do you fear you are quite alone
on this path called life?
You're not.

I give my life

I give my life
again and again and again.
It unfolds before me, the Way.
As if the One I love
opens the corners of an envelope and lets me peek
at the wonder of this becoming.
It's always a shock, the seeing.
I can never quite believe that this is it.
This is all.
And it's too much and it's not enough.
I'm never quite enough for the task, for the vision, for the road
ahead.
But that's just me, that's ego, that's fear.
For God, all is as it should be.
That's all that counts, finally.

I've seen the green

Hey, I've seen the green and
I'm running towards it.
It's raining, it's grey, the sun splashes across the sea
and it all lights up.

Nothing to beat this.

When you see the green

When you see the green, run, why don't you!
Run fast towards the centre of your life,
where the freshness is spreading out,
whispering of newness and daring, of summer days
yours for the taking.

Do you ever wonder what it might be like
to trust this?

Do you ever think what your days might be like
populated with peace and love and laughter?
Our birth right.

Sparks of light dancing through the mess of it all.
Bunches of daffodils, out of season.

Would you ever, could you ever
wonder what gift might come,
if you just
gave
up
the fight?

Offering the fruits

Hold me in my grieving, Lord God Most High
as I let go of all that is not you.

The branch is ripe, if truth be told!
When the harvesters arrive they will laugh and sing
as they unencumber my loving.

Let me be wise enough to open wide the gate
of my giving,
stand ready ...
as I offer now the fruits of my life.

I only know

I only know it's you,
at the heart,
in the depth,
through the frozen,
peeking through,
budding forth
irresistibly.

The greening.

and do you know,
no, really know?

that beyond the sticky door of past betrayals
is the most amazing stretch of blue and green.
Moist underfoot, crisp air, sun shining straight
into the innermost, trapped down, broken heartedness of you.
Inviting you to feel, yes feel this new time.
Take a step, wriggle your toes, run.
